Today we’ll be comparing both Zmodo Greet HD and Nest Hello. Both smart doorbells offer some useful features for your home, from setting your own custom motion detections to CVR, making your home feel extra safe.
While it’s clear that Nest Hello has a lot of advantages over Zmodo, but because of some technical flaws, we feel that Zmodo Greet HD is the better buy for now. However, you can make that decision yourself after looking at both the advantages and disadvantages of both models.

Power options – When it comes to Zmodo Greet and Nest Hello, the installation is quite similar.
Both models can be hardwired into existing doorbell kit, and are compatible with 16-24 VAC doorbell. Be sure to check on that prior to the installation, and if you’re worried that it may not be compatible, you can also opt for the Honeywell Transformer, as it provides enough power for your doorbell to function properly.
The set up itself is fairly straightforward to follow, and shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes. If you do run into any issues, you can contact their support team and they’ll do their best to guide you.
If you tend to change homes quite often, it might be a good idea to check out the new , as it runs on battery power and doesn’t require to be hardwired.

Difference #1: Field of View – Both Zmodo Greet HD and Nest Hello, offer clear HD resolution quality when it comes to their video feed. So you’ll be able to see clearly what’s going on with no issues. Yet when it comes to the field of view, Nest Hello comes out ahead.
With Nest Hello you have a wider angle of view, with 160 degrees diagonal, compared to Zmodo’s 120 degrees horizontal.
Having a wider range of view can be crucial when it comes to identifying a potential thief. Plus, with the NEst Hello you’ll be able to see a visitor in full height.

Difference #2: Personal alerts & Facial Recognition – Nest Hello takes your home security to the next level with its advanced personal alerts and facial recognition if you decide to opt for the Nest Aware subscription. Plus, you’ll also have access to custom motion zones, which will allow you to set your own areas via the app that the Nest smart doorbell should monitor closely.
Unfortunately, there is no facial recognition feature available for Zmodo Greet HD, yet you can set your own custom motion zones when you upgrade to the Premium or Platinum subscription Plan.

Difference #3: Silent Mode – This feature is perfect for when you don’t want to be disturbed. Nest Hello allows you to disable the indoor chime for a specific length of time, using the ‘’Quiet Time’’ technology. Ideal for your working hours, or afternoon naps.

Difference #4: Voice Message Recording – While both models have this feature, however, there is a minor difference.
Nest Hello offers three quick responses for whoever is listening. Such as, ‘’ You can leave it.’’ ‘’We’ll be right there,’’ or ‘’No one can come to the door.’’ While that may seem like enough, Zmodo Greet HD offers up to 5 personalized voice messages, that you can create and record yourself.
Thus, offering you more choice in explaining where to leave the package, or what time you’ll be home later. Whereas Nest Hello only offers automatic pre-recorded messages. There’s no option for personalized voice messages available yet.

Difference #5: Web app – Both Zmodo Greet HD and Nest Hello offer an app on both Android and iOS.
However, Nest Hello takes it a step further by also providing a Web app, for those of you who are looking to control the smart doorbell via a computer.

Difference #6: Network – When it comes to network compatibility, Nest comes out ahead with its dual-band service.
Meaning that it won’t only support a 2.4GHz network, but a 5GHZ one too. Because of this advanced network technology, it will be able to spread its data transmission out over a wider range of frequencies, and you shouldn’t notice your network slowing down at all.
While Zmodo Greet HD only supports a 2.4GHz network.

Difference #7: Cloud Storage & Subscription – Both Zmodo Greet HD and Nest Hello differ in terms of subscription plans and storage.
Zmodo Greet HD allows you to store your clips for up to 12 hours on the meShare Cloud and can be easily viewed from your smartphone whenever you wish. However, if you decide to upgrade to the Premium Plan, you can have 7 days of continuous cloud recording and playback and 30 days on the Platinum plan. At a cost of 4.99 USD per month, 49.90/yr for the Premium, and 9.99 USD per month, 99.90/yr for Platinum.
Both plans also include the Flashback feature, smarter and more accurate alerts, and customized motion detection areas.
While for the Nest Aware you only get 3 hours of snapshots if you don’t pay for a plan.
There are 3 options available, the 5-day plan amounts to 5 USD per month or 50/yr, the 10-day plan is 10 USD per month, 100/yr, and the 30-day plan costs 30 USD per month. 300/yr.
These plans also include 24/7 continuous video recording, intelligent alerts, clips and time-lapses, and also the ability to program activity zones.
So in terms of the free plan, Zmodo Greet offers a lot more storage with its 12-hour storage, compared to Nest’s 3 hours. However, Zmodo falls short when it comes to CVR.

Difference #8: Size & Style – In terms of size, Nest Hello does come slightly larger, with its dimensions of 5.1’’ x 2.5’’ x 1.1’’, compared to Zmodo Greet’s 4.92″ x 2.36″ x 0.98″.
Color-wise, both models don’t offer too much versatility.
Zmodo Greet HD comes in Dark Grey/ Black color tone and doesn’t offer too many skin options, while Nest Hello offers a choice between a black or white skin. However, if you wish for a little more color, be sure to take a look at the selection of skins that Nest Hello provides, you’re bound to find a color to suit both your home and style.

Zmodo Greet HD vs. Nest Hello — Our Thoughts
When it comes to Zmodo Greet HD vs. Nest Hello, it may be obvious that Nest seems like the better choice with its advanced security features and excellent network compatibility.
However, there are a couple of ways where Nest Hello does fail to deliver.
For one, it has been reported that Nest takes around 10 seconds to send a notification to your smart device when motion is detected. It can be annoying in terms of security, especially if you’re keeping a lookout for someone. Its two-way audio system doesn’t seem to be reliable either, as there have been cases of the audio being recorded, but no audio coming through the app.
Also, Nest Hello has reportedly a long cooldown between its motion detection notifications, as long as 30 minutes!
That makes this feature quite unreliable, as there can easily be multiple motions detected in that time period.
With that being said, while Nest Hello does offer other useful features, it just doesn’t seem like a very reliable smart doorbell, making Zmodo Greet HD a more budget-friendly and a dependable option for your home.
