Sansaire vs. Anova Sous Vide

The sous vide cooking method is one of ease and perfection. If you’re going to make perfect food, you’ll want to invest in a machine that is perfect for your needs. Two top-tier sous vide cookers are the Anova Precision Cooker (Bluetooth + Wifi) and the Sansaire Sous Vide Machine. Both machines offer a wide range of helpful features for sous vide cooking. And although they were both created to accomplish the same cooking goals, there are many differences between the two. Let’s look at what’s different between the Anova vs. Sansaire to help you decide which of the two better suits your needs.

Sansaire vs. Anova — Differences

  • Difference #1: Attachment – The bodies of the two machines are styled the same except for a difference in a way they attach to the cooking pot. The Sansaire sous vide has a clip on its back side. The clip is adjustable to fit both wide and thin-lipped containers. Its standard position fits thin-lipped cooking pots. For wider-lipped containers you’ll need to pull the clip off and put it back on extended.

The Anova sous vide has a different system in place — it uses a clamp mounting bracket which allows you to easily tighten it to fit any container. If you have a wide or thin-lipped container, just screw in the clamp to find a perfect fit.

When comparing Anova vs. Sansaire mounting options, we found that the Sansaire’s clip design is not quite steady. The Sansaire sous vide can be easily moved from side to side because of the loose clip support. Whereas the Anova’s clamp design provides firm and steady grip to a container. Once you screw in and tighten the clamp, the Anova sous vide is not moving anywhere. Which makes Anova sous vide a better option in this difference.

  • Difference #2: Control – The Anova offers both manual and app control options. The sous vide has an LCD screen with temperature, time, and WiFi indicator on it. There’s also a start/stop button on the display. You can adjust the temperature and time manually by scrolling an LED backlit wheel beneath the display. Check out the Anova video on How do I set the timer on my Anova Precision Cooker.

The best thing is that you can also use the Anova app to cook and monitor the status of your food remotely. The app offers thousands of recipes with cooking directions — All you have to do is: find a recipe, adjust your settings, and press start.

Sansaire only offers manual control. So, overall, the determining factor for how you would like to control your Sous Vide Machine is based on how technologically advanced you want your machine to be. But obviously, when we’re looking at the difference in control, Anova takes the cake.

  • Difference #3: Connectivity – Anova can connect with smart home devices like Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice assistants. Which means you can do things like say, “Alexa, ask Anova to set my cooker to 139 degrees,” and Anova will start up. This kind of connectivity makes using Anova sous vide extremely convenient.

If you aren’t looking to integrate a sous vide cooker into your smart home system, Sansaire is fine choice. As we mentioned in the previous difference, Sansaire is only controlled via the buttons on its display. However, for those who’d prefer Sansaire and would like it to integrate with their smart home system, the Sansaire Delta should be released later in 2017, and it’ll have WiFi compatibility.

  • Difference #4: Plug configuration – Sansaire’s plug configuration comes in three different options: 110v USA/CA, 220v AU/New Zealand, and 220-240v EU plug. Whereas Anova has four configurations: 120v USA/CA, 220v AU, 220v EU/Korea, and 220v UK plug, making it the more versatile of the two. This is not the major difference, however we feel that it’s still important to mention. So, if you’re looking for sous vide to use in the UK, Anova is the one to go for. You can still go with Sansaire, but you’ll have to make sure you grab a EU to UK converter.

  • Anova vs Sansaire Plug Variations

  • Difference #5: Circulation/Heat Power – The Anova Sous Vide offers 2.1–2.4 GPM / 7–8 LPM, which is lower than Sansaire’s 3 GPM / 11 LPM. Their heating power is also different: Anova’s 800W vs. Sansaire’s 1100W, making Sansaire a stronger sous vide machine. With better circulation and heating power, Sansaire heats up the water faster and has no problem maintaining the temperature.

  • Difference #6: Timer – Once you turn on the Sansaire, it’ll automatically heat up and keep the water at your target temperature until you turn it off. Yes, you need to turn it off manually. There’s no way to set a timer. Which might make it a little bit inconvenient to use. Fortunately, there’s a safety feature in case you forget to turn the Sansaire off. So, if the water level goes too low and drops below its safety mark, the Sansaire will reset.

With the Anova sous vide, you can either set the timer manually or with the Anova app. Even if you forget to turn the Anova off, you’ll still get a perfectly cooked meal as a result. Anova will turn off automatically and notify you via the app once the food is cooked.

  • Difference #7: Size – The Anova Sous Vide machine is more compact and lightweight than the Sansaire machine, but not by much. Both the length and width of the Anova are about 1 inch less than the Sansaire machine, but the height difference between the two is only 0.25”. Overall, the weight of the Anova machine is 1.5 pounds less. If size is an important determining factor, the Anova Sous Vide machine is the smaller and more compact of the two.

  • Difference #8: Immersion Depth & Range – The Anova Sous Vide has a maximum immersion depth of 7.25 inches and a minimum immersion depth of 2.5 inches. This gives it an overall immersion range of 4.75 in. The Sansaire Sous Vide has a maximum immersion depth of 6.5 inches and a minimum immersion depth of 2.75 inches, giving it an range of 3.75 in. For the ability to fill at more varied water levels, the Anova machine is the better choice.

  • Difference #9: Cost – Both the Sansaire Sous Vide and Anova Sous Vide Bluetooth + WiFi are around the same price. But the major difference here is what the two sous vide machines offer, and it’s somewhat obvious that for nearly the same price, you get way more functionality with the Anova sous vide. So until the release of the Sansaire Delta later this year, we’d say that the cost is a major difference between these two.

Anova vs. Sansaire — Our Thoughts

Anova Precision Cooker

When it comes to choosing between these two sous vide machines, the major factor is that of smart device integration. The Anova Precision Cooker (Bluetooth + Wifi) can be operated via manual controls on the device or by using the Anova app on your smartphone. It’s easily paired with smart home devices, like Amazon Alexa, to make using it even easier. And with cost difference factored in, you’re getting way more with the Anova Sous Vide.

For those who aren’t looking for remote control or smart home integration, the Sansaire Sous Vide Machine is a cooker that offers versatile configuration and more heating power. The choice between the two is entirely up to you and your preference, but again, we’d give Anova the edge. It’ll be interesting to see how the new Sansaire Delta will fare against Anova, and we await the Delta’s release.
