Lutron Caséta Wireless and Nest are fully compatible now. Caséta Wireless has been connecting with the Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Protect smoke detector for a while now. And finally, to complete the whole family, early this year Lutron added in Nest Cam support. All this smart home devices are working seamlessly together to bring the convenience of a connected home to your fingertips.
Whether you’re home or away, you’ll be able to control all your Nest devices via the Lutron App. Your smart home will always meet you with a comfortable temperature and lighting level.
The synergy between Lutron and Nest Thermostat is pretty simple. You can control temperature at your smart home remotely and set up the home/away mode to come back to a warm, nicely illuminated house.
Nest Protect smoke detector, on the other hand can be a nice surprise when it gets to action. And here’s why: Lutron suggest that in case Nest Protect (smoke and carbon monoxide alarm) senses smoke or CO, the Lutron Smart Bridge will automatically turn on the lights and open the shades. Lutron will light up the way out of the house for you and provide an easy access for firefighters by opening the shades. However, in case there’s a false alarm, then open shades and fully lit-up house might be a little bit inconvenient, don’t you think?
But there’s nothing to worry about because Lutron Smart Bridge supports IFTTT technology. That means you can set and customize the recipes that will trigger devices in your smart home to your own comfort.
Lutron Caséta Wireless Family — New Arrivals
Lutron has recently added Nest Cam to its family for extra safety when you’re not at home. So, when you’re away, the lights at your home will turn on if Nest Outdoor Cam detects a person. The idea is that it should scare the robbers. The Nest Cam and Lutron Smart Bridge offers the same performance as any occupancy motion sensor. But, with a much harder technology behind it.
We can see Nest Cam and Lutron Caséta Wireless synergy working as a security measure. Yet, if you want people to believe there’s someone in your house, you should probably be able to customize the light triggering. Let’s say: adjust the lights to turn on with delay, in different rooms, and stay on for different periods of time. With this approach, there’s a higher chance to create fake presence at your home. Though, we’re not sure if that option is on the table. We’re hoping to test it soon and update the article.
Simple triggering of lights whenever there’s movement detected is pretty obvious. It might even play an evil joke and notify robbers about expensive home equipment and even light up the way to it.
Lutron Caséta Wireless and Nest — The Bottom Line
Don’t get us wrong, connecting smart home devices of different brands is a “dreams come true” type of thing. There’s no doubt that some simple smart device bounds at the beginning, can turn into something great at the end. And one of main Lutron’s goal is to offer not only a smart home, but a connected home. Therefor, Lutron Caséta Wireless and Nest will soon start working with SmartThings devices.
