Honeywell has been providing thermostat solutions for residential and commercial applications for over 100 years. Two of its latest releases, the Lyric T5 and Lyric T6 Pro, are incredibly similar. They’re so alike that it’s nearly impossible to find anything online about the differences between the two. So, we did some research and have put together all the differences we could find between the Lyric T5 vs. Lyric T6 Pro thermostats.
Honeywell Lyric T5 vs. T6 Pro — The Differences
- Difference #1: Ventilation – Lyric T5 does not support Universal Relay (U terminals) for ventilation, whereas the T6 Pro model can control ventilation equipment with ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) / HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) or damper.

Difference #2: Dual Fuel – A dual fuel heating system is a system that combines a heat pump with a gas furnace. The dual fuel system allows for more efficient heating and thus energy use. The Lyric T6 Pro is compatible with most dual fuel systems, whereas the Lyric T5 is not.
And even though the Lyric app can walk you through configuring your Lyric T6 Pro to work with your heating system, please note that choosing the incorrect options for a dual fuel system can result in damage to your system. Just make sure to hire a professional to assess the requirements for your specific dual fuel configuration. Difference #3: Wired Sensors – The Lyric T5 thermostat does not support Universal Input (S terminals) for indoor and outdoor sensors. Whereas the Lyric T6 Pro has an S/S terminal for both conventional and heat pump systems.

Difference #5: Installation – The Lyric T6 Pro Wi-Fi thermostat is for professional installation, so you would need to contact your local HVAC technician. Whereas the Lyric T5 Wi-Fi thermostat is designed for consumers and DIY applications.

Difference #6: Warranty – This difference is up to you, and here’s why: the warranty for Lyric thermostats depends heavily on two factors — where you buy it from and whether you install it yourself or with the help of a contractor. In general, it has a 2-year retail and 5-year trade warranty from the date it was installed.
