Alarm.com Smart Thermostat

Alarm.com Smart Thermostat

Alarm.com announced a new thermostat that can help you maintain a healthy home environment. Besides energy-saving capabilities, the thermostat can detect if there’s something wrong with your HVAC system and notify you at the first sign of trouble.

How will it know about potential threads? The thermostat uses remote sensors to read the temperature and humidity levels. This way it’ll distribute the heat/cold evenly between the rooms while also alerting you about above-average humidity levels that could cause mold. It’ll also notify you about dangerously low winter temperatures that can often lead to frozen and burst water pipes.

The thermostat is sold as part of the Alarm.com smart home package of products, so it’ll use all the security sensors around the home to respond to different activities and conditions.

CES 2018: Smart Home Cameras • Overview

CES 2018: Smart Home Cameras Overview

After three days of wandering the Vegas desert, we’ve come back from CES with an idea of what’s cool in the smart home sphere.

The smart home camera market grows big with new, advanced solutions for smart home security. So, what’s trending in 2018? Simple motion detection is getting an upgrade to advanced human detection and facial recognition — cameras use AI to identify a person (Butterfleye) and even alert you when something doesn’t look or sound right (Cocoon).

New ecosystems are built to include sensors, sirens, smart locks, and doorbells to accompany smart cameras and create a unified security system.

It’s a turn from a wide-open platform where you can mix devices from different brands to a single vendor ecosystem with just a few exclusive partners to join in. These closed ecosystems potentially expose less vulnerabilities when it comes to security, though they also limit your choice to one particular product line.

What is Internet of Things and Why Your Privacy is at Threat

what is internet of things

Chances you’ve probably heard someone talking about the Internet of Things, but what exactly is it? Different people have different ideas when it comes to defining what it is, what it does, and what it means for us. So to keep you informed, we’ll try to answer all those questions in this article.

What is IoT?

The Internet of Things, or “IoT”, is a system of uniquely identified devices, objects, mechanical and digital machines that can transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human, or human-to-computer, interaction.

We use IoT devices in our everyday life: things like smartphones, Apple Watches, Fitbits, smart thermostats, locks, cameras — the list can go on and on. And in the near future, almost anything you can think of will be able to be transformed into an IoT device. Seriously. All you’ll need is to assign a unique IP address to a new device and provide it with the ability to transfer data over a network. That’s of course a simplified version of the actual process. And it probably requires more work and knowledge than your standard weekend project, but basically, any natural or man-made object can be turned into an IoT thing.
